Alex Douglas Hales, 73, of Greensboro, answered God’s heavenly call on April 9th, 2016 after a year of declining health.  A celebration of Doug’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 14th, 2016 at McLeansville Baptist Church in McLeansville, N.C.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. prior to the funeral service in the church sanctuary.

Doug was born May 2, 1942 in Guilford County to the late Calvin and Blannie Carty Hales.  He graduated from Rankin High School in 1960 where he excelled in football, basketball, baseball, and track.  He attended GTCC and was a machinist for many years.  He spent the last 27 ½ years of his work life in steel fabrication at Carolina Steel Corporation.  He worked with a fantastic crew of men.

Doug accepted Jesus as his personal Savior in 1963 at Lankford Memorial Baptist Church.  His heart and life were forever changed.   He was a faithful member of the most loving and supportive church a Christian could ever know, McLeansville Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, Doug was preceded in death by his sisters, Edna Pearl Hales, Hesba H. Williams, and one brother, William F. Hales.

Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Edna 0. Hales, his daughter, Mona C. Hales, and her fiancée, Larry G. Matz.  Sisters include, Lena H. Miller of Palm Harbor, Fl. and Peggy H. Lambert of Greensboro, N.C.  In addition, survivors included many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and many precious friends.  Special thanks to his life long pal and schoolmate Rodney Bartlett of Summerfield, N.C., the Men’s Sunday School Class of McLeansville Baptist Church, and Doug’s medical staff and caregivers.  The family deeply thanks all of you who have touched our lives during this difficult journey.

Memorial contributions may be made to McLeansville Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 197, McLeansville, N.C., 27301 or Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro, 2500 Summit Avenue, Greensboro, N.C.  27405.
