Mrs. Bessie Cook Bucherich, 93, passed away, Wednesday, July 1, 2015 at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 4:00 PM Monday, July 6, 2015 at Concord Friends Meeting with Pastor Greg Creed and Rev. Archie Creed officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 3-4 PM prior to the service at the church.

Bessie was born July 29, 1921 in Stokes County to the late Henry and Viola Dodson. She lived in the Sumner community and in addition to raising her family on their farm, she was an accomplished seamstress, artist and needle crafter. She was awarded the Civitan Good Samaritan award and is also listed on the Young Women’s Christian Association’s Wall of Honor in Wilmington, NC. She was active at Concord Friends Meeting.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Fred P. Cook; brothers, Paul, Howard, Rev. Bernard and Charlie; her children, Shirley Gilbert Farr, Nancy Cook Moss and Fred Allan Cook; and a grandson, Fred Allan Cook, Jr.

Survivors include her husband, John C. Bucherich; children, Lois Cook Steele (Don), Steve Cook (Brenda) and David Cook (Joyce); a sister, Irene Osborne (Avery); a brother, Elroy Dodson (Peggy); grandchildren, Donna Pinckney (Jerome), Darrell Steele (Melissa), Melanie Reinke (Ronald), Dr. Shawn Gilbert (Stacey), Charlie Cook and Andy Cook (Tina). She is also survived by her great grandchildren, Meredith & Garrett Pinckney, Lauren & Lilly Gilbert, Walter Reinke, Samuel & Emilyn Steele, Savannah, Bryson & Jesse Cook. She also leaves to cherish her memory, 22 nieces and nephews and numerous great nieces and great nephews.

Several caregivers have assisted Bessie in recent years, especially Jill Parker Neal, to whom the family expresses their deepest gratitude.

Bessie loved all flowers and she also cherished Concord Friends Meeting where memorial contributions may be made, 5000 Old Randleman Road, Greensboro, NC 27406.
