Carrie Mae (Kitty) Peele Shaw went home to be with our dear Lord on September 12, 2016.  Kitty was born on February 3, 1919, in Columbia, SC. She spent 97 and 1/2 years on earth where she attended church and school, worked as a dietitian in several institutions, married, and helped rear a God-fearing, music-loving family.  She served God and her church in the music ministry at Jones Memorial Baptist or Vandalia Baptist Church for 23 years.  She was an original board member at Vandalia Christian School where she enjoyed managing the lunch program and daycare.

Then, only a day or so after her retirement, she suddenly became a lifelong caregiver to her paralyzed daughter, Mary, on May 12, 1981. With a sweet spirit and sure measure of God's grace, she continued to be a loving wife, a God-honoring mother, a dear friend, a charming hostess to all who entered her home, and was a wonderful example of God's abiding love.

On March 11, 2001, Kitty's beloved husband of nearly 54 years, former NC State Highway Patrolman Holland Bruce (Bud) Shaw, fell asleep while taking a morning nap and woke up minutes later in Heaven with the Lord.  He was only one in a long line of family members and friends who preceded her in death.

All of the Shaw children--Carol, Bruce (Paula) and Mary remain here with a firm belief that they will someday join their parents in Heaven. Until then, they will reminisce of happy times, lessons learned, and songs around a piano and at a church pew. They will know they were loved with an everlasting love and, remembering their Mother's call at supper, they will often hum a childhood favorite: "Come home, come home, it's suppertime."

The Shaws wish to express love and appreciation to their many faithful friends and loved ones, and especially to their dear lifelong friend and brother, Bill Howell (or "my other son," as Kitty affectionately called him).  He and wife Gloria have been a constant source of love for decades.

Thanks to the fine folks at Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro and to the staff at Beacon Place, where Kitty spent her last two days on earth. Any memorial contributions may be made to them or to Beacon Baptist Church in Burlington, NC.

Thank you also to our pastors and fellow members of Beacon Baptist Church for their support, encouragement, fellowship, and friendship. Throughout Kitty's later years when unable to attend church in person, she was grateful to continue to "be in church" by watching the Beacon Live Webcast.  Thank you to those responsible for that blessing.

Lastly, we would like to express our gratitude to the George Brothers and their staff as they have been so gracious in assisting our family with special love and care.

Kitty continued to play her baby grand piano from childhood until age 96.  She always began and ended with "Amazing Grace." It was because of God's amazing grace that she was able to live such a grace-filled life. Thanks be to Him for His amazing gift of salvation to us, and for the amazing gift to the world of Kitty Shaw.

Visitation will be held from 3:00 to 3:45 PM, September 24, at Beacon Baptist Church in Burlington, NC, with the memorial service beginning at 4:00pm.
