Lydia and I worked together in the 1980s in the Claims Dept. at Jefferson Standard/Jefferson-Pilot (now Lincoln Financial). When she told me she was from Chatham County, I knew there had to be a family connection. I learned from Fran Daniels Phillips last year that Lydia had passed and have just gotten to our ancestral connection -- Lydia’s step-father (William Clarence Gaines) was a 1st cousin to my mother’s sister-in-law (Bernice Gaines Kirkman). Although not connected by dna, I felt a familial connection to Lydia. She was a lovely person and strived to be her best self, personally and professionally. It is with much pleasure to include her in my family tree now.

Our heartfelt sympathies to all of Lydia's family. She loved her family so very much, and we know that she will be missed by all who knew her. I did not work in her department, at Lincoln, but when I saw her she always had a smile and good sense of humor. God Bless You All is our prayer.

I am so very sorry to hear of Lydia's passing. She was wonderful to work with and I learned much from her. She was also very fun to be around, had a fabulous sense of humor and was a gracious hostess in her beautiful home. My thoughts and prayers are with the family during this most difficult time. May peace and comfort be found by all. Rest in peace, Lydia. You will be missed.
