Mrs. Mabel Short Hodgin Williams, 93, passed away Sunday November 26, 2017 at Wesley Long Hospital.

A funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 30, 2017 at Rehobeth United Methodist Church.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Williams was born July 8, 1924 in Guilford County to the late Samuel R. and Dixie Culler Short. She graduated from Sumner High School and retired from the Guilford County School System after twenty four years of service.  Mabel was a member of N.C. State Teachers Association and a member of Travelers Protective Association.  She joined Rehobeth United Methodist Church in 1932, was Den Mother for Troop 320, and delivered Mobile Meals for 25 years.  She enjoyed swimming, fishing, going to the beach, and camping in the mountains.

She is preceded in death by her first husband, Glenn H. Hodgin, Sr.; second husband, H.O. Williams; parents; sisters, Aileen McCraw, Mildred Brady; and brother, Roger Short.

Mabel is survived by her sons, Glenn (G.H.) Hodgin, Jr. of Whitsett and Lyndon “Bud” Hodgin of Dallas, Texas.  Also surviving are her grandchildren, Melanie Hodgin, Adrianne Bruce, Marissa Infante, Rachael Bingham, and Abigail Hodgin; and great-grandchildren, Casandra, Jake, Hudson, Lennox, Maxwell, and Bishop; sister-in-law, Mildred Steele Short; and special nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Wednesday evening at George Brothers Funeral Service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Rehobeth United Methodist Church 4475 Rehobeth Church Rd., Greensboro, NC 27406 or to Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro 2500 Summit Ave., Greensboro, NC 27405.

The family would like to extend a special “Thank You” to Marsha Ramsey with Home Instead for the loving care she gave to Mrs. Williams.
