Mabel was a wonderful, kind, and thoughtful neighbor. We had many enjoyable visits and conversations. One night Mabel called and said, "Shirley, your house is on fire because I can see the red flames shooting in the air near the garage". I ran to see what was happening and the flood lights were on and our grand children were playing basketball; she saw the red ball as they shot it through the light beam. I said, "Mabel you have good eyesight; it isn't a fire, it's just the grands playing basketball". We enjoyed that conversation and had a good laugh. We will miss her.

I met Mabel through Congregational United Church of Christ, after she was no longer able to attend. I visited once, then again, then again...over a period of about 4 or 5 years, I think. What a privilege this was for me! We always looked at her flowers. She had the magic touch. She even repotted my poor African violet and rooted a piece for a second pot. Both are thriving. I would always look at her cards; she received many for every occasion, meaning that quite a few other people regarded her as I did. Then, she would offer me ice cream. She or I would dish it up, then later it was Marsha. To G.H., Lyndon and the rest of the family, my condolences on your loss. She was a grand lady. I will miss her too.
