Mrs. Rachel Walters Welch, 82, of Greensboro, went peacefully home to her Lord and Savior on Sunday, October 29, 2017 following several years of dealing with Alzheimer’s.

A Celebration of her life will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday November 2, at St. John’s United Methodist Church with Pastor Phyllis Coates officiating.  Burial will follow at Alamance Memorial Park.

Rachel was born March 15, 1935 to Arlys Granville and Gladys Key Walters in Surry County.  She met her husband, Ray Welch, at the Pavilion in Myrtle Beach on May 7, 1958.  They were married June 21, 1959 and enjoyed 58 awesome years of blissful marriage.  She was a member of St. John’s UMC where she volunteered in the baby nursery.  She loved her sons and was very supportive and proud of them.  She was very close to her family and enjoyed many good times including the nieces and nephews and their children.  She left behind a legacy of kindness, due to her persistence of caring for others that will be remembered by all she touched.  She was an avid fan of Elvis and attended several of his concerts at the coliseum.

She is survived by her husband, Ray Welch and sons, Todd Welch and friend, Sabrina, of Greensboro and Brent Welch (Erica) of Glenn Allen, Va.  Also, brother Paul Walters (Opal) of Norwood, NC and sister, Mary Roach (Bobby) of Burlington, NC.  She was predeceased by her parents and brother Joe Walters and his wife Ella Rae of Burlington, NC.

Thanks to the Hospice staff with special thanks to Lindsay and Keda who provided the love and care Rachel needed.  Thanks to Melinda Farmer who gave loving care and became Rachel’s dearest friend.

The family will receive friends from 6:00pm to 8:00pm Wednesday at George Brothers Funeral Service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials  may be made to St. John’s UMC, 1304 Merritt Dr. Greensboro, NC  27407 or Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro, 2500 Summit Ave., Greensboro, NC, 27405.
