Raymond Cecil Hampton, 93, went home to be with the Lord on June 8, 2013 at Beacon Place.  Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, June 11, 2013 at 2:00 PM at Southside Baptist Church with Dr. Pat Cronin and James Gunter officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 1-2 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Interment will follow in Westminster Gardens.
Raymond was born in Rockingham County on October 27, 1919. He retired from Gulf Oil Corp and Southeastern Eye Center. He was a faithful member of Southside Baptist Church for over 50 years. Raymond was a member of The Greater Greensboro Chapter of the American Ex-POW’s. He was with the 26th Infantry of the US Army and served the First Division in a POW camp near the border of Czechoslovakia called Bohmisch Leipa starting November, 1944.
Raymond was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Elsie Gann Hampton, mother, Ola Hampton Cardwell and father William Cecil Hampton.
He is survived by his daughter, Judy Stevenson, husband Jim of Oak Ridge and son Bill Hampton, wife Linda of Stokesdale.  Grandchildren, Bryan Stevenson and Dr. Amy Stevenson, husband Mike Radford of High Point, Christa Hampton Benton, husband Aaron of Brown Summit and Rodney Hampton of Phoenix, Az. Step grandchildren, Misty Fleming, husband Doug of Mebane and Valerie Gavasto of Key West, FL. Four great grandchildren and four step great grandchildren. Brother Vernon Cardwell of Stoneville and sister Peggy Tuttle of Mayodan.
