Raymond R. Smith

Mr. Raymond R. Smith, 86, went home to be with his Lord Monday, January 18, 2016, surrounded by his family.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 21, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at George Brothers Service with Pastor Brandon Dupont and Pastor Jimmy Bledsole officiating. Interment will follow in Guilford Memorial Park.

Raymond was born May 23, 1929 in Ashe County to the late David Comadore and Annie Mabel Severtt Smith. He was a member of Grace Gospel Tabernacle.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Flowers Smith; a son, David Smith and 2 sisters, Pinky Cockerham and Bly Walton.

Survivors include his 2 daughters; Gail Sparks of Greensboro and Shelia Vermeulen (Doug) of Pleasant Garden; 5 step children, Larry Flowers, Sr. (Brenda) of Asheboro, Vickie Kovach (Dan Groman) of Thomasville, Gayle Holbrook (Rodney) of Greensboro, Dawn Teixeira (Jay) of Round Rock, TX and Bud Laster (Sandra) of Burlington; 2 brothers, Ralph Smith (Dora) of West Jefferson and Roy Smith of Maryland; 3 sisters, Elsie Stone of Asheboro, Sylvia Roark of Jefferson, and Sadie Lyles (Bob) of West Jefferson;  20 grandchildren, Tania Sparks, Timmy Sparks, Jonathon Smith, Anthony Smith, Jeffrey Tuttle, Heather Carty, Larry Flowers, Jr., Stephanie Gilley, Mandy Flowers, Melissa Cobb, Jamie Holbrook, Dale Holbrook, Terry Holbrook, Katie Holbrook, Philip Teixeira, Kristy Flanders, Christopher Laster, Christian Riggs, Jessica Riggs, and Magen Laster; and 22 great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
