Winfred Lee Burgess, Sr.

Mr. Winfred Lee “Red” Burgess, Sr., 87, passed away Monday, December 25, 2017 at Maple Grove Health and Rehabilitation Center.

A Memorial Service will be held Friday, December 29, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. at George Brothers Funeral Service with Pastor Glen Garver and Dr. Howard McNeill officiating. The family will receive friends from 2-3 pm prior to the service at the funeral home.

Winfred was born July 8, 1930 in Harnett County to the late James Corey and Mary Leola Cameron Burgess. He served his country in the National Guard and was a retired salesman for Firestone Tire Company.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Marilyn Mills Burgess; 2 sons, Winfred Lee Burgess, Jr. and Daniel Robin Burgess; a daughter, Janice Miller; a great grandson, Austin Allen; and four brothers, J.C., George, Sam and Kenneth Burgess.

Survivors include his wife, Loraine Miller Burgess of the home; daughter, Carol Burgess (Randy); sons, Kenneth Lee Miller (Cathy), Steven Ray Miller (Teresa), and Dennis Carl Miller (Vicki); brothers, Clifton Burgess and Lindsay Burgess (Brenda); sister, Lucille McLamb and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Greensboro Seventh-day Adventist Church, 1320 Fleming Road, Greensboro, NC 27410 or to Southside Baptist Church, 1001 Greenhaven Drive, Greensboro, NC 27406.
