Mr. William “Bill” Elmer Ray, Jr., age 81, went home to be with his Heavenly Father on Thursday May 17, 2012 at his residence.

A funeral service will be 11:00 AM Monday in the chapel of George Brothers Funeral Service with Rev. Dallas George officiating the service.  Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery, with military honors provided by Randolph County Honor Guard.

Bill retired from the City of Greensboro, as a supervisor, of the Parks and Recreation.  He was a proud WWII veteran of the United States Navy with eight years of service, and was a lifetime member and a past Commander of the Greensboro VFW Post 2087.  He was also a member of New Testament Baptist Church.  

Bill or “Uncle Bill”, as he was known by the staff of George Brothers Funeral Service, was employed with the funeral home as a Funeral Director’s Assistant.  He began working, on July 15, 2002, when the funeral home was established.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents William Elmer Ray, Sr. and Minnie Smith.

He is survived by his wife of 23 years May Lou Ray of Greensboro; children William Lee (Susan) of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Harvey Keith Ray and daughter Kimberly Ann Dickson both of St. Louis, Missouri; nephew Jimmy Ray (Kathy) of Charlotte.  Also surviving are four grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM Sunday at George Brothers Funeral Service.
