Howard Max Surratt, Sr.

Mr. Howard Max Surratt, Sr. age 95, of Greensboro went to be with the Lord on April 2, 2024 with family by his side.

A graveside service will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, April 6, 2024 at Chapel Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery, 1457 Chapel Hill Church Road, Denton, NC 27238 with Rev. Bill Davis officiating the service. The family will be receiving friends at the residence during the next few days.

Max was the ninth child out of ten born to the late Cordie Lee and Louella Steed Surratt.  He grew up on a farm in Randolph County where he was a member of the Future Farmers of America. Following graduation from Farmer High School, Max went on to be a truck driver for J.P. Stevens Textile Corporation for more than thirty years.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of thirty-seven years, Ruby Louise French Surratt along with four sisters and four brothers.

Max was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was a kindhearted man who knew no stranger. He was a happy and loving man who enjoyed spending his time at the beach with his family. Max also enjoyed attending the annual Southeast Old Threshers' Reunion in Denton. He spent his last years helping to rear his three grandchildren.

Max is survived by his children, Howard Max Surratt, Jr., and Julie Surratt King (Brad); grandchildren, Alexis Surratt Blackwell (Jordan), Abigail Surratt Beach (Bobby), and Zachary Ethan Surratt; and sister Betty Jean Harrison.

Following his stroke in March of 2018, Max received care from Nancy, Melanie, and Eddie with AuthoraCare Collective and Raegan Bush, his home sitter. The family would like to extend a special thank you to all of Max’s caregivers.
