Mr. Ernest Odell Cherry, age 86, went home to be with his Heavenly Father on Monday March 25, 2024, at Moses Cone Hospital.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00pm Saturday at McLeansville Baptist Church with Rev. Mike Barnette officiating the service.
Mr. Cherry was born to the late Albert and Cleo Cherry. He was proud veteran of the United States Navy, where he served as a air traffic controller at LaGuardia and a graduate of Guilford College. He served the community of Greensboro, for 28 years, as a Greensboro police officer. After his retirement, as an officer, he was employed with Powers Detective Agency for 28 years and was a faithful member of McLeansville Baptist Church.
Ernest a kind and God loving man. He was a happy, and loving person who loved life, his family, and many step-grandchildren, step- great-grandchildren, and great-greatgrandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife Mary Frances Cherry and stepdaughter Diona Goodwin.
He is survived by his loving wife and best friend, of sixteen years, Jennie Cherry; children Jason Cherry (Kimmy) and Kim Martin (Randy); stepchildren Steve Wall (Tina) and Dale Wall (Sherry); siblings Albert Cherry (Betty Lou), Charles Cherry, Betty Bullard, and Phillip Cherry (Patricia). Also surviving are many grandchildren.
In honor of Mr. Cherry, memorials may be directed to McLeansville Baptist Church 5205 Frieden Church Rd. McLeansville, NC 27301.
