Rev. Mr. Vincent Shaw, Jr. of Pleasant Garden, NC passed away Monday March 18th at Hospice of Randolph County in Asheboro, NC.

Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, March 27, 2024 at 2:00 pm at St. Mary’s Catholic Church.  The family will receive friends at the church from 12:00-1:45pm prior to the service.

Born on July 9th, 1938 to Vincent Sr and Alfreda Shaw in The Bronx, NY.  The oldest of 8 children, Vincent graduated from St Helena High School in 1956, before going to work at General Electric. Vincent was drafted by the US Army in 1957. He served 3 years in Korea earning the rank of Sgt. E-5. He then returned to The Bronx where he began working for Lorillard. Soon after, he met the love of his life Catherine who would become his wife on May 6th, 1961.

Also in 1961, he was transferred to Greensboro, NC where he continued to work with Lorillard until 1972. Shortly after arriving in Greensboro, Vince and Catherine started their family, having 4 children. During this time, he also became part of the Greensboro Police Department as a reserve officer from 1965 until he became a full time Police Officer in 1974. Vincent spent 33 years with Greensboro Police Department making many lifelong friends. Vincent was awarded Rookie of the Year and holds the record for being the oldest recruit to ever join Greensboro Police Department. He served many years in charge of the incident command center, 9 years in patrol and the rest of his term in the traffic division, 4 of those years he was a motorcycle officer.

Vincent was a member of St Marys Catholic Church. In 1984 he joined the Deaconic Program and was ordained to the order of Deacon in the Sacrament of Holy Orders June 19th 1988. While a Deacon he performed several duties such as weddings, funerals, Baptisms, marriage counseling and also served as a police chaplain for Greensboro Police Department.

After retiring from Greensboro Police Department, he continued his service with St Marys Catholic Church.

His passions were his grandchildren, hunting, fishing, riflery, music, photography and spending time with the love of his life, Catherine.

Preceded in death by his loving wife of 62 years, Catherine Shaw, parents Vincent Sr and Alfreda Shaw, sister Frances Sherman, brother Richard Shaw.

Survived by Daughter Donna Shaw Davis, husband Joe and son Michael, of Greensboro;

Daughter, Brenda Shaw Rohme, husband Rick and children, Brandon, Justin and Meagan, of Greensboro;

Daughter, Joann Shaw, of Pleasant Garden;

Son, Jim Shaw and wife Lori, children Noah, Hailey and Kaitlyn, of Pleasant Garden;

Great Grandchildren, Kamden Rohme and Riley Rohmeand; and sisters, Maryann Valen, of Paughquag, NY, Ginger Herring, of Fayetteville, Terry Wade, of Bronx, NY, Kathy Hellinger, of Winston Salem, and Liz Crookshank, of Winston Salem.
