Ben R. Fields, 83, of Pleasant Garden died Monday, December 24, 2018 at Clapps Assisted Living on Pleasant Garden Road.
Funeral will be 11:00 AM Thursday, December 27, 2018 at Tabernacle United Methodist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery.
Ben was born in Guilford County where he was a lifelong farmer in the Pleasant Garden area. He also retired as Captain from the Greensboro Fire Department. Following his retirement, Ben drove for local tour companies including Holiday Tours. He was a man of many talents and it is said he could fix anything with a hammer. Ben was a graduate of Pleasant Garden High School, served with the National Guard, was a member of Tabernacle United Methodist Church, a longtime member of the Greensboro Shriners, and he also served on the board of the Pleasant Garden Fire Department for many years. He was an avid fan of NASCAR and his favorite driver was Dale Earnhardt.
Ben is survived by his sons, Randall Fields of Costa Rica, Michael Fields (Renee) of Pleasant Garden, and Alan Fields (Jennifer) of Climax; grandchildren, Kameron Fields, Kalen Fields (Ashley), Savannah Fields, and Carson Fields; great grandchild, Karter Fields; brother, Howard Fields; sister, Vivian Wilkinson (Edward); dear friend and close companion, Jean Womble; along with nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm Wednesday evening at the church.
