God’s wonderful mercy drew our daddy to Himself Friday, September 22, 2017.  Carl Benjamin Swaney, Sr. was born on June 25, 1926 to Carl Baxter Swaney and Lula Bertha Shoe. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Janice; a son, Ben, Jr. and all his brothers and sisters.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, September 26, 2017 at 2:00 PM at George Brothers Funeral Service with Rev. Roy Carter officiating. The family will receive friends Monday from 7-9 PM at the funeral home.

Carl loved the Lord and throughout his adult life he served Him as a teacher, as a deacon and in other areas of the church. His passion for God and serving was fulfilled also in the Gideon Ministry as well as prison ministry.  As a Marine, serving his country during WWII, his duties carried him to California where he was a parachute rigger.  He attended Guilford College after fulfilling his military duties and retired from Pillsbury as Regional Manager of Burger King and the next 20 years joined his sons at Ad Press, Inc. and Air Ground Express.

Carl enjoyed woodworking.  Many  homes are decorated with his crafts of furniture, toys, cabinetry and things that will bring a smile.  Until his later years, summers were spent at the beach creating memories through camping with family.  And Polyanna, his favorite board game was enjoyed by all his family even to the great grands. Carl was an avid golfer and was privileged to play in the GGO Pro Am.

To say he will be missed by many is an understatement.  His remaining sons, Steve, Larry and Joe have been faithful to attend to Carl’s needs, keeping him in his home as his memory failed and the ravages of Alzheimer took over.  He was a loving father and always looked to the future, remembered the past and lived in the present – until this disease.  Those left to cherish his memory are many.  His sons and wives are:  Steve and Forrest; Larry and Cathy; Joe and Karen and Ben’s wife, Madeline.  His grandchildren and their children are:   Stephanie with Katherine, Caroline and Christine; Ben III (Amy) with Benjamin IV and Bailey; Daniel (Laura) with Rocco and Luca; Mindy with Hannah; Joey (Erin) with Alyssa and Jackson; Nathan (Robin) with Evan and Lillian Grace; and Brett (Sara) with Emerson, and two great-great grandsons Cayleb and  Colby.

His life was one of inspiration and encouragement.

This would not be complete without expressing our sincere appreciation to Linda Quick, Amy Walton, Diana Chapel, Wanda Miles and Teresa Hazelwood who faithfully cared for daddy and loved him as their own.  A huge thank you to Hospice of Greensboro and his neighbors.  In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Gideons International Processing Center, P. O. Box 97251, Washington, D.C. 20090-7251 and Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro, 2500 Summit Avenue, Greensboro, N. C.  27405.
