Charles Wilbur Covert, Sr. passed away at Beacon Place on Saturday, August 4.
A celebration of life service will be held on Monday, August 6, at 2:00 p.m., at Rehobeth United Methodist Church, 4475 Rehobeth Church Road, of which he was a member. The family will receive friends in the Family Life Center following the service. A private interment will precede the service at Guilford Memorial Park.
A Greensboro native, Wilbur was born on January 24, 1932 to Charles Wesley and Vera Bland Covert. He was preceded in death by his parents, as well as a brother, Irvin M. Covert and a sister, Vera Dianne Covert.
Wilbur graduated from Greensboro Senior High School (Grimsley High School), and then entered the United States Army. Following his two years of service, of which 15 months was spent in Korea, he returned to his hometown to pursue a career in automobile body repair.
He loved automobiles and enjoyed the challenge of repairing them and making them look like new. He retired from Batts Body and Paint after 38 years in the industry.
Wilbur’s other interests included being a handyman, traveling, NASCAR and gardening. He enjoyed watching his garden grow and produce vegetables for his family, friends and neighbors.
Survivors include his wife, Jo, son, Charles Wilbur (Chuck) Covert, Jr., daughter, Janet C. Gragg and husband, Rod, and beloved grandson, William Cole Gragg.
