Jeannette Dean Obituary
The family of Jeannette MacKenzie Dean, lovingly known as “Jenny”, sadly announces that she passed away on January 25th, 2019 at the age of 90. A lifetime native of Greensboro, she graduated from Kings Business College and retired from UNC Greensboro after 25 years of employment. Jeannette was very involved with the North Carolina State Employees Association, on the State and District level, and received many honors for her contributions and dedication. Jeannette attended Grace UMC where she volunteered with the breakfast program. For many years she served in the kitchen of Urban Ministries helping to feed the hungry. Helping those in need was her passion.
Jeannette is predeceased by her husband, J. J. Dean; her parents, Ethel Tucker Mackenzie and Burt Mackenzie; brother, Burt MacKenzie and sister, Marie Mackenzie Carter (Alex). She is survived by her stepchildren, Doris Dean Alderfer, John A. Dean (Jennifer), Shirley Dean Coble, and her sister-in-law, Roxy MacKenzie (Burt).
She will be forever remembered by her grandchildren, Andrea Dean Fricke (Gary), Leslie (Lec) Coble, Jr. (Robin), Christi Alderfer and Deana Coble (Gail); and by great-grandchildren, Jennifer Fricke, John Alan Fricke, and Christopher Harper; many nieces and nephews, her beloved cat “Izzy”, her dear friends, Wanda Kersey and Ann Venable, as well as many other friends and faithful caregivers.
A “Celebration of Life Service” will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 10, 2019 at the George Brothers Funeral Home, 803 Greenhaven Drive, Greensboro, NC.
Visitation will be held following the service.
