Margaret Needham Smith

GREENSBORO – Margaret Needham Smith, 90, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 18, 2017 with her husband of 69 years at her bedside along with her sons.

A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday November 22, 2017 at Pleasant Garden Baptist Church with the Reverend Mike Barrett officiating.  The family will receive friends at 1:00 prior to the service at the church.  Burial will follow at Mt. Pleasant UMC of Kimesville, NC.

Margaret was born February 15, 1927 to the late James and Sallie Needham.  She was the oldest of five children graduating from Nathaniel Greene High School in 1946 and Kings Business College thereafter.  She was a member of Pleasant Garden Baptist Church and retired from Cone Mills.  

In 1948, Margaret married Harvey Carlson Smith, the love of her life! They had 69 years of a wonderful marriage in which their love for each other was an inspiration to their family and others who knew them. Her life priority was her husband and three sons, providing a household that was full of love and special memories.  In addition to raising three sons, she loved her daughter-in-laws as daughters, had five cherished grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Margaret enjoyed cooking, gardening, music, teaching Sunday School, entertaining, playing cards, and traveling.  She enjoyed life and was always looking to participate in activities at church and in the community.   She loved the Lord and would share her testimony and her belief in Jesus with anyone.

Left to cherish her legacy and memories include husband, Harvey Smith and sons Stephen Smith (Regina), Roger Smith (Sheila) and Gary Smith (Marilyn).  She loved and cherished her grandchildren: Stacy Smith (Trent), Justin Smith, Brian Smith (Ashley), Joshua Smith (deceased) and Jordan Smith.  She is survived by her brothers Warren Needham (Anne) and Joseph Needham (Lucy) and her sister Shirley Simpson (Jack).  She was preceded in death by her brother James Needham (Annie Mae).  She was also close to her husband’s brothers and sisters and their extended families.
