Mr. Eddie "Ed" Joe Walters

Mr. Eddie “Ed” Joe Walters, age 81, went home to be with his Lord and Savior unexpectedly Tuesday June 19, 2018 in Durham, NC.

A funeral service will be held 12:00 Tuesday at New Testament Baptist Church in Greensboro, NC.  Burial will follow at Guilford Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 pm Monday at George Brothers Funeral Service in Greensboro, NC.

He was born in Rochester, Indiana on June 18, 1937 to the late Ernest and Dorothy Walters.

Ed was a cancer survivor who cherished his family and friends, and was very patriotic.  He loved working with his hands, and enjoyed the hobby of wood working. He loved nature and the outdoors, and loved teaching his grandchildren how to hunt and fish.  He was employed with UPS for 25 years, and later retired from Marriot Hotels with over 20 years of service.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Bonnie Thackerson Walters; son Ricky Walters; brothers Ronnie Walters and Mickie Walters.

He is survived by his children Jamie Wilkins (Todd) of Durham, Starr Parsons (Garley) of Dayton, Ohio, and Troy Walters of Lafayette, Indiana; brother Jimmie Walters (Connie) Rochester, Indiana; grandchildren Jamison Berthold (Emily) of Durham, Stephen Wilkins of Durham, Hannah Glowik and Heidi Anderson both of Dayton, Ohio, Cameron Walters of Lafayette, Indiana, and Aaron Walters of Warsaw, Indiana; great-granddaughter Ellie Mae Berthold of Durham. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to your local Disabled American Veterans Association.
