Nancy Newman Whitley

Mrs. Nancy Newman Whitley, 83, passed away peacefully Thursday, December 14, 2017 at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, December 17, 2017 at 2:30 p.m. at George Brothers Funeral Service. Interment will follow in Burnetts Chapel UMC Cemetery.

Mrs. Whitley was born April 13, 1934 in Guilford County to the late Walter Burnette and Dora Virginia Poe Newman. She was a faithful member of a non-denominational home church and tried to serve God every day.

In addition to her parents, Nancy was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Richard M. “Dicky” Whitley, 5 brothers and 5 sisters.

Survivors include her 2 sons, Timothy Martin Whitley (Theresa) of Murrells Inlet, SC and Kimball Franklin Whitley (Terri) of Greensboro; a daughter, Darla Lucille Evans (Charlie) of Greensboro; 3 sisters, Mamie Honeycutt, Dot Wright and Ruth Compton (John); 6 grandchildren, Brennon, Olivia, Mitchell, Taylor, Carlyn and Christian;  and 5 great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 1:30-2:15 p.m. Sunday prior to the service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Pinecroft Sedgefield Fire Department, 2239 Bishop Road, Greensboro, NC 27406 or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
