Rodney “Ray” Lawrence Sr. went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, November 20, 2018 at Duke University Hospital while lovingly surrounded by his family.
A Homegoing service will be 1:00 PM Saturday, November 24, 2018 at Monnett Road Baptist Church with Pastor Ronnie Kimble officiating. Burial will follow at Gilmore Memorial Park.
Ray was born to the late John and Katherine on March 21, 1949 in Baltimore, MD. He grew up in Bluefield, WV where he attended Bluefield High School. In Greensboro, he attended Guilford Technical Community College. Ray was a retired electronics engineer with Hobart Sales and Service in Greensboro where he worked from 1985-2012. He was also a faithful member of Monnett Road Baptist Church for thirty years.
Along with his parents, Ray was preceded in death by his brother, Benjamin Musarra; sister, Anna May; and step-sister, Mary Lou “Kippi” Custrini.
Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife of forty-three years, Trudy Lawrence; brother, John Lawrence, II (Betty); sister, Barbara Tice (John); son, Rodney Lawrence, II (Stacie); daughters, Gypsy Brown (Herman), Kimberly Anderson (Ronnie); step-son, Tommy Lowrance; grandchildren, Chris, Gypsy, Cinnamon, Tre, Avery, Trinity, Tenchi, Braden, Natalie, Austin, and Colton; great grandchildren, Rain and Phoenix; and a new grandchild and great grandchild that are due in May 2019; along with a host of nieces, nephews, church family, and friends.
The family will receive friends from 12-1 pm Saturday at the church prior to the service.
The family would like to thank Pastor Ronnie Kimble, Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital, and Duke University Hospital for all their dedication and support of Ray and the family.
