Ms. Susan Jean Boatner Morris, 70, went home to be with her Lord, Friday, July 21, 2017 at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 PM Saturday, July 29, 2017 at Sharpe Road Baptist Church with Dr. Alton Cook and Dr. Barry Nealy officiating. Burial will follow in Westminster Gardens.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Sharon Hall.

Survivors include her two daughters, Jennifer Ingold (Brian) and Whitney Scarlett (Mike), all of Greensboro; three grandchildren, Maxton Thomas Ingold, Caden William and Ila Rhen Scarlett, all of Greensboro; and a sister, Sandra Pearce (Eddie) of Denton, TX. Nephews Chris Pearce (Clay Luther) of Dallas, TX and Cory Pearce (Julie) of Henderson, NV and a great-niece Elanor “Ella” Evelyn Pearce of Henderson, NV.

Susan was born January 30, 1947 in Cincinnati, Ohio to the late Melvin Thomas and Ila Vee “Vicky” Brothers Boatner.  She graduated from Grimsley High School.  She was a proud graduate of Furman University majoring in History Education.  She later earned her Master’s in Education from UNC-Greensboro.  Susan retired from Guilford County Schools after dedicating more than 32 years of her life to teaching History at Southeast Junior and Senior High Schools.

Susan was a proud member of Sharpe Road Baptist Church where she continued to use her gift for teaching, leading the Young Adult Sunday School class for the last ten years.  A lifelong teacher, she also taught the youth and other children’s classes in years past.   The greatest gift God gave her was her beautiful lyric soprano singing voice.  She took great joy in worshipping God through singing with the church choir as well as performing angelic solos.

Her greatest joy, though, came from spending time with her three grandchildren.  From cheering on Max at soccer, basketball, and baseball as well as swim meets; to bringing flowers to dance recitals and having makeovers with Rhen; to doing her best to understand how to complete just one stunt as she watched Caden master The Breathe of the Wild, Mammy spent every minute she could with her grandchildren who are left to treasure the memories of hugs and laughter that were never in short supply.

The family will receive friends from 5:30-7:30 pm Friday, July 28, 2017 at the church.

Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Sharpe Road Baptist Church, Children or Youth Funds, 1908 Sharpe Rd., Greensboro, NC 27406.
