Obituary

Brenda Smith Cook was called home by the Lord in the early hours of the morning on February 28, 2023, at her home in Greensboro, NC.

A funeral service will be held at 3 pm on Sunday, March 5, at Concord Friends Meeting.  The burial will be at 10:00 am Tuesday, March 7, at Guilford Memorial Park.

She fought a short but hard battle with pancreatic cancer over the course of several weeks. Brenda was born and raised in her hometown of Julian, NC by Clarence and Marie Smith. Brenda graduated from Southeast Guilford High School and went on to attend Elon College and graduated. She took a clerical assistant position to the president of NCNB Bank today known as Bank of America and remained at that position until the birth of her first child in late 1979. Brenda married her long-time best friend, Steve Cook, in 1972. They had two sons and were married for 49 years. Brenda loved to go to the beach as well as the mountains and spend as much time as possible with family and friends. Brenda loved to slalom water ski and did so from the age of 7 years old. Most of her hard work was done in the home office for her family's four corporations. She was a fantastic bookkeeper, spot on and so precise in all her work. She built her life around raising her family and that gave her great joy. She loved to garden and have fresh vegetables that she'd can for winter soups and meals. Her latest feat was in 2014, becoming a school bus driver for Guilford County Schools and did so for almost 9 years. Brenda was a fantastic mom and a very loving wife. She was a very faith driven woman and always pushed her family to do the same.

Brenda is preceded in death by her parents Clarence and Marie Smith and her husband George Stephen Cook (Steve).

She is survived by her brother Kenneth Smith (Kay) of Burlington, NC and two sons and two daughters in law (that were daughters to her) Charles Nicholas Cook (Jenny) of Fancy Gap, VA and Andrew Stephen Cook, PA (Tina)of Johns Island SC, three beloved grandchildren Savannah, Bryce, and Jesse Cook, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Brenda will be dearly missed, and we were so blessed to have her as part of our lives.

The family will receive friends from 3-5 pm on Saturday, March 4, 2023 at George Brothers Funeral Service.
