Obituary

Charles Barr, 83, of Greensboro, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Sunday, September 6, 2026. He was surrounded by his loving family at the High Point Hospice House.

A private graveside committal service will be held at Salisbury National Cemetery officiated by Pastor Chris Vance and Chaplain Richard Charles. Military honors will be performed by the Randolph County Honor Guard.

Mr. Barr, formerly of Philadelphia County, PA, Bladen and Columbus Counties, NC, was born in Paisley, Scotland to the late Charles Bell Barr and Janet Hunter Gillespie Barr. He came to the United States at the age of five. He graduated from Lincoln High School where he played soccer and football; his love of sports began. Charles was proud to serve in the United States Army, during which time he was deployed to VietNam. He met the love of his life, Charlotte Kay Meshaw in Fayetteville, NC, during his service with the US Army. He and Kay married in 1966 and raised their family in the state of North Carolina. Mr. Barr's love of sports continued throughout his life as an avid golfer, softball coach, and he could always be counted on as a supporter of Pennsylvania professional sports fan. Following his retirement from the barber shop, Charles worked at Forest Oaks Country Club. Charles was a devoted Christian and loved to read his Bible. He attended Monnett Road Baptist Church as his health would allow.

In addition to his parents, Charles is preceded in death by his siblings: Elizabeth Greenless Barr Gemmell (Robert) and Mary Bell Barr Quenzer (William).

He is survived by his devoted wife of 60 years, Charlotte Kay Meshaw Barr; children Charlotte Ann Barr Lyda (Kevin), Crystal Barr Hayes (Milton), and Carinna Barr Batten (Richard); grandchildren Charles Gilbert Lewis (Kimberly Lynn Coble Lewis), Timothy Chandler Lewis (Mori Gabrielle Greene), Christann Morgan Lewis, Kayla Barr Elkins, Daniel Jackson Elkins (Lindsey Reid Tyler), Hunter Colton Barr (Angelica Katriel Slobodyanik), Ava Grace Batten, and Noah Barr Batten; great-grandchildren Christopher Charles Lewis, Gunner Colton Lewis, Kayden Christann Lewis, Jacob Daniel Long, Kaislee Brooke Long, and Jackson Doc Long.
