Obituary

Donald Ray Tucker, 68 of Greensboro, passed away Monday, July 13, 2026 lovingly surrounded by his family.

A Celebration of Life will be 7:00 PM Thursday, July 16, 2026 at George Brothers Funeral Service. The family will receive friends from 4:30-6:45 Thursday at the funeral home prior to the service.

Ray was born on January 6, 1958, in Guilford County to the late Donald Leroy Tucker and Martha Ann Poe Tucker. He had a deep appreciation for the outdoors, often spending time plowing his garden and scraping the racetrack at his home for the kids to enjoy riding their four-wheelers. Ray loved working and tinkering on anything he could take apart and put back together. His professional career spanned many years in the heating and air-conditioning industry, but his true passion lay in racing. He gave one hundred percent of his effort regardless of who he might be driving for. Throughout his extensive 40-year career in dirt late model racing, he achieved an impressive 478 victories, with his best year being  1987 when he won 21 consecutive races. Ray's legacy continues through his two sons, Daniel, who drives, and Dell, who serves as crew chief.

In addition to his parents, Ray is preceded in death by the love of his life, Carla Sims Tucker following 49 years of marriage; sisters Lisa and Cheryl; nieces, Kristy Tucker and Sara Sims; nephew, Jordan Hodgin; and grandparents, Willard and Irene Tucker, George and Ellen Poe.

Ray is survived by his sons, Daniel Tucker (Autumn) and Dell Tucker (Libby); grandchildren McKenzie and Hayley; brothers, Ronnie Tucker (Linda Ruth) and Scott Lloyd (Nancy); sisters Ellen Tucker, Linda Tucker Jones, and Tammy Myers (Roger);  a host of nieces and nephews, and his beloved chihuahua, "LUCY".
