Dorothy Matthews Meekins, 88, of Greensboro, formerly of Jacksonville, died Thursday, November 30, 2023 at AuthoraCare Collective's Beacon Place in Greensboro.

Funeral will be 11:00 AM Monday, December 4, 2023 at George Brothers Funeral Service in Greensboro. Interment will follow at 2:30 PM Monday at Harnett Memorial Park in Lillington, NC. The family will receive friends from 10-11 AM prior to the service at the funeral home.

Dot was a long time resident of Jacksonville, North Carolina, where she worked in the Onslow County School System. She was an active member of Cardinal Village Free Will Baptist Church and had a strong love for her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Dot Moved to the Greensboro area in 2016 to be closer to her husband, children and grandchildren.

Dot was a wonderful wife, mother and friend, who was kind to everyone she met. She lost her earthly battle with cancer Thursday morning and now walks without affliction with her Lord. She is finally home again, home again, jiggity-jig.

Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband of sixty-one years, M M Meekins; son, Mark Meekins; sister, Alice Perkins; and parents, Hayes and Selena Matthews.

She is survived by her children, Wayne Meekins (Debbie) of Winterville, Brenda Chaney (Dewayne) of Oak Ridge, and Hayes Meekins (Gina) of Greensboro; sister, Nancy Allen (Carl) of Greensboro; brother, Charles Matthews (Judy) of Morehead City; twelve grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.
