Ina Belle
(Rorex) Raines
Jul 19, 1932 — Dec 10, 2023
Ina Belle Rorex Raines, 91, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Sunday December 10, 2023.
A memorial service to honor and celebrate her life will be held on Wednesday, December 20, 2023 at 2:00 at Trinity Church, 5200 West Friendly Avenue, Greensboro, NC, 27410. The Rev. Dr. Caroline R. Franks will officiate. The family will receive friends at the church following the service.
Ina Belle, affectionately called "Iney," was a beloved and faithful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and daughter. She desired to be a friend to all. Her heart's desire was to love Jesus and share His loving grace with anyone she met. She passionately desired for others to experience a friendship with Jesus.
We knew her as offering the gift of hospitality, demonstrated by opening her home not only to her family but also to countless searching souls who needed to know Jesus loved them. Her home was a beacon of Hope. Iney never seemed to be inconvenienced by these interruptions.
Ina Belle was bold in her faith and confident to be her own individual. She was persistent in understanding the greatness of God shown in the Scriptures and in other beloved Christian writings. Eating healthy food and using the best natural supplements was a lifelong pursuit.
She loved and served her family well. She was always interested in her children and grandchildren and those who considered her "their friend." She earnestly desired the next generation of the faith legacy to do "greater things" through the power of the Holy Spirit as she and Jimmy prayed daily for them. Iney diligently sent daily scripture messages to loved ones, always reminding them that Jesus loved them.
She always prayed: "Our Father who art in Heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. "(Matthew 6:9-10)
Ina Belle trusted Jesus at the age of twenty. At a Young Life retreat, she heard of His great love and His grace available for her. She did not hesitate to begin following Jesus with a fervor. From that moment on, she desired to follow Him and discover all she could about a friendship with Jesus. She wanted everyone to know the joy and overflowing life from following Him and entrusting Him with one's whole heart.
Ina Belle attended University of Tennessee at Knoxville for two years and then transferred to Memphis State where she completed her degree in education in 1954. After graduation, she moved back home to Knoxville and taught Health and Physical Education at Tyson Junior High School.
While she was teaching, she met her soulmate and sweetheart, Jimmy Raines, through Young Life. They studied the Bible together and were volunteer leaders for Young Life Clubs. After Jimmy graduated from University of Tennessee at Knoxville, they married in 1957 and moved to Atlanta. Ina Belle taught Home Economics for three years while Jimmy attended seminary at Emory. Upon graduation, they moved to Greensboro, North Carolina.
In Greensboro, Ina Belle supported Jimmy's work with InterVarsity Christian Fellowship which he helped to pioneer on college campuses in the Southeast such as UNC-Chapel Hill, Duke, NC State, Wake Forest and UNC – Greensboro, while they served college students.
Jimmy and Ina Belle furthered their ministry by opening Logos Christian Bookstore near UNC-Greensboro and eventually moving to Friendly Shopping Center. She was active in the local church and community. She and Jimmy partnered in marriage and ministry while raising four children and loving others beautifully. To their children, Ina Belle modeled Jesus' love by mentoring countless women of all ages. During this time, their home was always open to others who needed help, counsel, a meal, and prayer. Through it all, the Word of God was paramount within their family.
Ina Belle partnered with Jimmy in serving multiple churches in the Western North Carolina district over the years. With her salesmanship, she successfully developed multiple successful businesses. Iney used the time she and Jimmy traveled to develop sales to share the love and grace of Jesus. She never let an opportunity go by without letting others know His great love for them.
Iney left an incredible legacy of faith in God to her family. She ran the race well, loving Jesus and others well by giving God all the glory. We greatly love and miss Iney, but she remains in our hearts forever. We will see our beloved Iney again.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Jimmy Raines; parents, Allie B. and Georgia Rorex; sister, Carolyn Sullivan; granddaughter, Juliana Melton Lagesse and son-in-law, Duane Franks.
She is survived by her son, Jim Raines, Jr.; daughter Julie Melton (Billy); daughter, Belle Strader (Tom); daughter, Caroline Franks; grandchildren, Hayley Raines, Jessica Shelton (Holden); Austin Raines (Bailey); Manning Franks (Kimmie); Farrelle Franks, Raines Strader, and Grace Strader; grandson-in-law, Brian Lagesse (Kate); Beth Raines, mother of Hayley and Austin; sister, Judy Henegar (Ed); brother, Rex Rorex; as well as numerous other family members and friends whom she loved.
The family would like to thank everyone for their love and support during this time. We are so grateful for Iney's precious caregivers who were such a blessing. We also want to say thank you to Hospice of the Piedmont for their care and support.
