James Anthony (Jim) Basie, 71, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 7, 2023.

Jim was born April 5, 1952 in Miami, Florida to John Adrian Basie and Dorothy Locker Basie. He was a member of StoneBridge Church Community in Charlotte. Jim retired after 39 years working in the Aviation Industry for Eastern and Piedmont Airlines, US Airways, and American Airlines.

He is preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Joanne Basie Lufbery.

Jim is survived by his wife of 51 years, Deborah Lynne Belcher Basie; daughters, Jennifer Basie French (Larry), and Cheryl Basie Sutton (AJ); grandchildren, Alex and Cameron French and Isaac and Aydin Sutton; sister, Joyce Basie Schmidt (Paul); and brother Jack Basie (Judy).

Jim was a talented woodworker who enjoyed building custom cabinetry as he renovated his family's homes. He had the heart of a servant, faithfully seeking to give of himself to others. Out of the overflow of God's love for him, Jim was able to love his wife, his children and his grandchildren in immeasurable ways.

Services will be private.
