Katharine (Caviness)
Teachey
Jan 8, 1924 — Feb 18, 2023
Katharine Caviness Teachey, age 99, of Greensboro, NC, peacefully went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 18, 2023, while residing at Clapp's Nursing Center in Pleasant Garden. She "...fought the good fight,... finished the race,... kept the faith," 2 Timothy 4:7.
A graveside service will be held in the main Guilford Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel on Monday, February 27, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Boyd Byerly officiating. The body will lie in state for 1 hour prior to the service. Visitation with the family will follow the service in the Chapel.
The youngest of eight children, Katharine, a/k/a Mama and Granny, was born in Wake County, NC, on January 8, 1924, to William Edward Caviness and Sarah Kate Cozart Caviness who preceded her in death. Also preceding her were her seven siblings: Gus Caviness, W. Hal Caviness, Ruby Wilson, Wade Caviness, Myrtle Avrette, Mary Blanch Moore Carr, and T. Jeff Caviness, along with their spouses; her son-in-law, Cecil Williams; 4 nephews, 1 niece, and many of her friends.
Katharine met the love of her life, Elmo W. Teachey, while attending school in Wallace, NC, and they were married on August 6, 1941. They enjoyed 70 years together before his passing in 2011. Out of this union came their four children whom they raised in church and taught to live in honesty and integrity and to love and serve the Lord, each other, and others. After their children left home, they became foster parents for 10 years. She loved children and wanted to help those less fortunate. Over the years she babysat her grandchildren and great grandchildren. They each had a special place in her heart. Her favorite things to do besides being with her family were fishing at the coast, visiting family and friends, watching Christian television, reading her Bible, and tending her flowers. She had a green thumb and could root and grow just about anything. She loved everyone deeply, and her greatest desire was for all of her family and friends to be prepared to meet her in heaven.
She is survived by her son, Elmo W. Teachey, Jr. (Buddy) and his wife, Betty; her daughters, Sarah Williams, Carolyn Hurley and husband, Byron, and Gail Ezell and her husband, David; her grandchildren: Annette Williams, Dwight Williams, Mary Scott (Mike), Crystal Weeks (Mike), Brian Ezell (Stacey), and Corey Ezell (Julia); along with 13 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild, many nieces and nephews, and her sister-in-law, Kathaleen Caldwell, all of whom she loved dearly. Also surviving her are her cherished furry companions, Arby and Thomas.
Her family wishes to express special thanks to all of the Staff, Nurses, and CNAs who attended to their mother's needs while she resided at Clapp's Nursing Center. You guys are the best! Also, thanks to the AuthoraCare/Hospice staff who assisted with her care while she was at home. Your assistance throughout this caregiving journey, along with the Lord's help, made it possible. Special thanks, also, to the many friends and extended family members who have offered their love and support during this season of caregiving and to those who would go to visit and spend time with her.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Sunset Avenue Church of God Missions Programs, 900 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro, NC, or to AuthoraCare, 2500 Summit Ave. Greensboro, NC.
