Obituary

Mr. Lowell Thomas Lewis, age 92, passed away Monday October 5, 2026, at his residence.

A funeral service will be held at 12 noon Friday, October 9, 2026, at Calvary Baptist Church in McLeansville. Burial will follow at Guilford Memorial Park following the service.  The family will receive friends from 11:00am - 12 noon on Friday at Calvary Baptist Church.

Lowell Thomas Lewis "LL" was born January 12, 1934, in Rockingham County to the late Walter and Lena Houchins Lewis. He was raised in Greensboro and came from humble beginnings but took great responsibility in his role as the eldest son. He joined the US Army National Guard at 17 years old to provide for his family. After high school graduation, he operated a Gulf Oil station. He met the love of his life and wife of 64 years, Doris "Dot" in Greensboro. After many years of city life, they settled down in the country and built their forever home where they raised their children and spoiled their grandchildren. Together they built a life they cherished with God and family at the center. Lowell spent the majority of his career at Coca-Cola as a Sales Manager. He later moved to Pepsi-Cola and earned many awards including "Sales Manager of the Year" before retiring. Once retired, he enjoyed playing golf, cheering on the Tarheels, square dancing, playing Canasta, serving numerous leadership roles at church, going out to eat, early morning coffee and guy talk at McDonald's, being the #1 Papa, and spending quality time with his family. Lowell was a provider and protector, always steady, reliable, and discerning. He was slow to speak, but his words were intentional and carried wisdom. Lowell's devotion to the Lord and his family was unconditional. His legacy will continue to be honored and respected by all who had the privilege of knowing, adoring, and loving him during his 92 years. His earthly presence will always be missed but his family finds comfort in knowing he is reunited with his forever love, Dot, and they are dancing on the streets of heaven. In addition to his parents, Lowell was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Branson Lewis and siblings, Phillip Lewis and Modena Price. Survivors include his son, Marc T. Lewis; daughter, Sheri McBride; grandchildren, Emilee Barr (Michael), Marc T. Lewis II and Kaylee McBride, step-granddaughter, Katie Gromlovits; great-grandsons, Branson Barr, Baker Barr, and Briar Barr. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Calvary Baptist Church Building Fund, 5585 Burlington Road, McLeansville, NC 27301.
