Marie Jarrell Ross, a longtime advocate for persons with disabilities, passed away at her home in Greensboro on September 24, 2023, at the age of ninety-seven.

A memorial service will be held at her church, Mount Pisgah Church of Greensboro, on Friday, October 13 at ten o'clock am.

She was born on April 29, 1926, the daughter of Pete Herman Jarrell and Lois Robertson Jarrell of Mt. Airy where she graduated from Mt. Airy High School with Andy Griffith in 1944. Marie was the granddaughter of Margaret Augusta Terry Jarrell and Joseph William Jarrell.  Soon after graduation Marie moved to Greensboro.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, her stepmother, Josephine Gunnell Jarrell; her siblings, Richard Jarrell, Don Jarrell, Clara Belle Jarrell and Betty Jarrell Ayers; three sons, Michael Justice, Daniel Justice and John Ross; one granddaughter, Elisha Justice McGee. She was also preceded in death by her close first cousins, Margaret Marie Smith Wilson, Imogene Branch Yates and Robert Terry Smith.

She is survived by her sister, Louise Jarrell Yoder of Rowlett, Texas, daughter-in-law, Jane Crater Justice,  grandsons, Anthony Justice (Yvonne) of Longmont, Colorado, and Christopher Justice (Elizabeth) of Las Vegas, Nevada; one granddaughter, Brandi Justice Newell (Derick) of Jamestown; eight great grandchildren, one great great grandchild, several nieces and nephews, one special nephew, Ricky Ayers; and several special first cousins once removed, including Mark Wilson of Kernersville, Charles Branch of Clemmons and Robert Terry Smith of Mt. Airy.

In lieu of flowers, advocacy for persons with disabilities or those over ninety years of age may suffice or donations may be made to Mount Pisgah Church, 2600 Pisgah Church Rd, Greensboro, NC 27455.
