Pauline Eschenburg Jones, 85, of Greensboro died peacefully Friday, October 16, 2026 at her residence.
Funeral will be 2:00 PM Tuesday, October 20 at Rehobeth Church with burial to follow at the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1-1:45 PM Tuesday in the church parlor prior to the service.
Pauline was born on March 29, 1941, in Richmond, Michigan, to the late Henry and Pearl Eschenburg, the seventh of nine children. She met Gilbert, the love of her life, at a pottery factory in Michigan and they have shared a life together for the past sixty-eight years. They visited Gilbert’s grandfather in Greensboro and decided to move there in 1960. She had a special love and natural talent for baking, a gift that brought joy to countless families throughout her life. She began her baking journey working alongside her mother-in-law, Beulah. Once Beulah retired, Pauline proudly purchased and operated the bakery on her own for many years. During that time, she baked thousands of pound cakes for weddings, birthdays, and countless other special occasions throughout the High Point and Greensboro areas. Her cakes, along with her famous cheese rings, became cherished favorites, and the memories of her delicious creations are still fondly shared and remembered to this day.
Throughout her life, the Lord faithfully guided Pauline’s steps, leading her to Rehobeth Church, where she was a devoted member for many years. Although limited mobility kept her from attending services in recent years, her heart and spirit remained firmly rooted in her church family as she attended virtually. The visits and phone calls from fellow members meant so much to her, bringing comfort, lifting her spirits, and reminding her of the enduring love and fellowship she shared with them. Though she could no longer be present in person, her faith and affection for her church family never wavered. Even though she never complained about her rare disease and the issues it caused, she always remained diligent about her appearance. Rarely would you ever see her without her lipstick and manicured fingernails.
Pauline is preceded in death by brothers, Harry, Lester, Art, and Robert Eschenburg; and sister, Shirley Schramm (Ervin).
Pauline’s greatest joy was her family. Along with her husband, she leaves behind her daughters, Pattie Lawson (Tim), Debbie Walker (Monty), and Tammy Williams (Jay); grandchildren, Eric Walker (Kati), Valerie Williams-Holton (Justin), Evan Lawson (Sullivan), Ryan Lawson (Hannah); great-grandchildren, Lola Ryan and Sterling Lawson; siblings, Bea Babel (Arnold), Gerri McCauslin (Terry), and Hank Eschenburg (Fannie); sister-in-law, Carol Eschenburg; and a host of nieces and nephews.
The family invites you to make any memorial contributions to the cemetery fund of Rehobeth Church, 4475 Rehobeth Church Road, Greensboro, NC 27406.
