Phyllis Ann
(Haynes) Barbour
Apr 7, 1939 — Feb 21, 2023
Phyllis Ann Haynes Barbour went home to be with her Lord and Savior on February 21st, 2023.
Phyllis was a faithful Christian and loved the Lord with all her heart and showed that love through generations of serving Him in leading the Children's choir, adult choir, youth group and Sunday School at Clifton Road Baptist church. She shared the amazing testimony of her daughter Toni after her death in 1981 at age 21 which touched so many lives and led many to know the Lord so that they would have eternal life. She loved to worship the Lord in Song and sang with her precious husband and others throughout the years. The youth that she touched and had in her and Heraldean's home are too numerous to name which is how she became "Mama Phyllis" to many.
Phyllis never met a stranger and when she did, they became her friend.
When she reached the pearly gates, Jesus was there with open arms, and we are sure he said "Well done my good and faithful servant"
Most recently Phyllis and Heraldean were faithful members Gate City Baptist Church and her celebration and homegoing will be held there. Phyllis retired from Jefferson Pilot/Lincoln Financial and then from Cahoon and Swisher as a Legal Secretary.
Phyllis was a loving, gentle and thoughtful wife, mother and grandmother. She was born in Galax Virginia on April 7th, 1939 to the late James Haynes Sr. and the late Elsie Haynes Schenck ,. Phyllis is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 64 years, Jesse Heraldean Barbour, Daughter Cynde Barbour Dorzweiler, Sister Virginia (Tuddy) Haynes Phelps (Charles) and Grandson Garrett Dorzweiler along with countless other family members and friends who were blessed to know her. She is now rejoicing with her Beautiful Daughter Toni in Heaven.
