Richard "Rik" Davis Helderman, 58, passed away Monday, July 27, 2026 at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital with his family by his side.

A memorial gathering will be held on Sunday, August 23, 2026 from 2:00-4:00 pm at George Brothers Funeral Service.

Rik was preceded in death by his grandparents, Bob and Nancy Phelps, and Thad and Mary Hedrick; as well as his best friend, "Kirby" Wilkins.

Rik's life revolved around music, his friends, and his work.  He thoroughly enjoyed crafting and building guitars and loved his dog "Daisy".  You could often find him playing in a local rock band and singing Karaoke.

He is survived by his mother, Jennifer Russo (Ron); sister, Angela Wheeler; sister, Jenni Torrens (Tim); brother, Thad Helderman (Beth); daughter, Emily K. Jones (Stephen); grandson, Liam Jones; his "LDI" family; and a host of nieces, nephews, family members and friends whom he loved.
