Roland Eugene Kimel Sr. "Gene", 86, of Pleasant Garden, North Carolina, passed into the presence of our Lord on September 14, 2026.  He was preceded in death by his wife of almost 62 years, Georgia Jane Kimel, parents AB and Dorothy Kimel, and sister Sue DeSanto.  Gene is survived by his three children, Roland Eugene Kimel Jr. (Sharon), Jeffrey Samuel Kimel (Jennifer), and Susan Elizabeth Davis (Brian), and his brother AB Kimel III (Pat) of Greensboro.  He was also blessed with 9 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.  Gene had over 33 years of service working with the City of Greensboro and retired in 1991 as Superintendent of Transportation Operations.  He was a member and past President (1987) of the State of North Carolina Chapter of the American Public Works Association.  Gene was active in ministry at Pleasant Garden Methodist Church teaching Sunday School and working in the Food Pantry.  He was also active in the Pleasant Garden community serving as a Fentress Election Precinct Leader, on the local Fire Department Board, with the Lions Club, and as a youth baseball and basketball coach.  Gene was a two-year member of the interim Pleasant Garden Town Council and was also a member of the first elected Pleasant Garden Town Council from 1999-2001.  Gene will be remembered for his sense of humor and love of fellowship with others in church and on trips and golf outings with friends, family and City of Greensboro co-workers.  The family would like to especially thank special friends Dottie Tew and Amanda Underwood for their love, care and support during the last few years of Gene's life.  A graveside service for friends and family will take place at 11:00am on Saturday, September 19th in the Pleasant Garden Methodist Cemetery beside the Pleasant Garden School Gym.  The family will have visitation in the auditorium of Pleasant Garden Methodist Church at 12:00pm, with a memorial service to follow at 1:00.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
