Vance Thomas, 69, passed away on November 4, 2026, leaving behind a family who loved him dearly and will forever cherish his memory.
Vance was born on July 23, 1957, in Burlington, North Carolina, to the late Alene Davis and Eulas Thomas. He graduated from Northeast Guilford High School and went on to spend his professional career working in commercial heating and air conditioning.
Vance had a deep appreciation for the outdoors and all things nature. He found joy in fishing, and in his earlier years of retirement he enjoyed beekeeping. Whether he was casting a line, tending to his bees, or simply enjoying the beauty of the natural world, he was happiest surrounded by the things he loved.
Those who knew Vance will also remember his sense of humor and his love of telling a good joke. He never needed a special occasion or a punchline worthy of a comedy show. His only goal was to make someone smile, and he found joy in bringing a little laughter to those around him.
Above all, Vance leaves behind a family who will miss him more than words can express. He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Diane Thomas; his daughter, Rachel (Luke); and his granddaughter, Sadie Post. He is also survived by his sisters, Sandra Creasey (Chris) and Rhonda Thomas; his sisters-in-law, Joanne Chrisco (Glenn) and Joyce Weatherly (Jim); and his longtime childhood friend, Lynn Gordon.
He was preceded in death by his son, Bradley Butler; his grandson, Joshua Butler; his nephews, Terry and Jason Chrisco; his brother Aubrey Thomas and his brother-in-law, Jim Weatherly.
The family would like to extend a special and heartfelt thank you to Hospice AuthoraCare of Greensboro for their compassion, kindness, and loving care during Vance’s final days.
Though Vance’s time here has come to an end, the memories he created, the laughter he shared, and the love he gave will live on in the hearts of those who knew him. He will be remembered in the quiet moments spent outdoors, in the stories retold, and in every joke that brings a smile when one is needed most.
