Vernon Castle Hurley, 92 of Greensboro, NC died peacefully Thursday, December 7, 2023, at Abbotswood Irving Park Memory Care. He was born on November 23, 1931 in Person County, North Carolina to the late William Wade Hurley and Irma Jewel (Hussey) Hurley. He was one of 9 children.

Vernon was an industrial engineer with Western Electric/Lucent for more than 30 years. He also served in National Guard Reserves.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Hurley of Greensboro, NC and 7 siblings, Oscar Raymer Hurley, Wade Deaton Hurley, Lloyd Sanford Hurley, Colleen Loray Kernstine, Virgil Elroy Hurley, Cecil Hamilton Hurley and David Bradford Hurley.

Surviving are his brother, Byron Hassel Hurley, 3 children Keith Hurley, Kim Kelly and Verna Hurley, 3 grandchildren, Ryan Hurley, Courtney Wall and Aaron Kelly and 2 great grandchildren, Logan Wall and Emma Wall.

Vernon is well known for growing a bountiful vegetable garden and sharing the bounty with family and friends. In addition, he enjoyed flying his airplane, his fishing trips to the North Carolina beaches and creating beautiful handmade furniture. He will also be fondly remembered as a good and generous friend to many.
