William (Bill) Henry Payne, age 96, of Greensboro, NC, passed peacefully to his Heavenly home on January 11, 2023, at  the Hospice Home of the Piedmont in High Point, NC.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 16, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Life Community Church, where he was a faithful and devoted servant of Jesus Christ.  Burial will follow at Guilford Memorial Park.  The family will receive friends at the church beginning at 10 a.m., prior to the service.

Bill was born on June 2, 1926, in Salisbury, NC, to the late Lee Harvey and Margaret Henry Payne.  He was the oldest of 7 children.  He served in World War II in the Army Air Forces and was stationed in France, Germany and Poland.

Bill loved his family and treasured his roles of brother, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and special uncle to Robin Haulsee of Mint Hill, NC.  He will always hold the title of World's Most Patient Man.

In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 68 years, Dorothy (Dot) Haithcock Payne; brothers, Bobby and Kenneth Payne and sisters, Betty and Jean Payne and Anne Lundy.

Bill is survived by daughters, Janet Stone (Ronnie) and Nancy Thomas (Clinton) both of Greensboro; six grandchildren, Jared Stone (Michelle), Katelyn Stone Lust (Adam), Grant Gibson (Shawn), Drew Gibson, Julie Gibson Allen (John) and Courtney Thomas; five great grandchildren, Mason Stone and Savannah, Felicity, Penelope and Marielle Lust; sister, June Payne Fateley (Frank) of Lakeside, CA and many special nieces and nephews.
