On June 15, 2022, Alan Hunt Groome lost his battle against congestive heart failure.
A Celebration of Life will be 2:00 PM Wednesday, June 22, 2022 at Groometown United Methodist Church, 5005 Groometown Road in Greensboro with Rev. Caroline Franks officiating the service. The family will receive friends from 1-2 PM Wednesday prior to the service at the church.
Alan was born June 23,1952, the first born to Luellabel and Cicero Hunt Groome Jr. He was raised in Greensboro, NC, and graduated from Lucy Ragsdale High School in 1970, and then East Carolina University in 1976 with a bachelors degree in English. In his adult years Alan worked for both TRW and Lexington Home brands. His true passion in life was serving those around him. He spent majority of his life volunteering at Groometown United Methodist Church, after retirement he spent countless hours helping build props, repair pit equipment, and driving equipment trucks for the Northwest Guilford Marching Band and their winter ensembles. When he wasn’t helping the band he was serving his community and sharing his faith through God’s Helping Hands food pantry. Alan was an avid reader, he also enjoyed singing in the choir, teaching Sunday school, spending time with his beloved friends George and Philip, spending time with his cat Oreo, and listening to classical music. He will be missed by so many.
He is survived by his loving daughter Tiffany (Steven) Clark of High Point, son Travis Atkins of Greensboro, sister Marcia Groome of Salem MA, brother Tim (Jean) Groome of High Point, granddaughter Aaliyah Atkins of Stokesdale. He was preceded in death by his loving parents Cicero and Luellabel, and special friend Joan Hipp.
The family would like to say a special thank you to our Groometown United Methodist Church family for many years of love and fellowship.
