Albert Golden Obituary

Albert Paul Golden, 87, of Greensboro, NC went to his heavenly home on Thursday, March 7, 2024 at Wesley Long Hospital with his 'sweetheart', Faith in his arms.  Memorial service will be Sunday, March 17, 2024 at Good Shepherd Church with Pastor Steve Walsh officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 2:00-3:00pm prior to the service.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest Clyde and Garnett Emily Spaur Golden; his son, David Paul Golden; a granddaughter, Michelle Golden; his brother Robert W. 'Bob' Golden, Sr.; sister-in-law, Marie and his sister, Mary Siegrist and niece, Cynthia Merck.

Albert was born in Lewis County, WV where he was raised.  He attended Jane Lew High School, where he played football and enjoyed scouting.  He went on to serve in the US Army during the Korean conflict, earning several awards and medals.

“Big Al” was loved for his adventurous spirit by all who knew him.  After discharge from the army he hitchhiked across the USA from Washington to West Virginia, his beloved home and vowed to one day return to all the beautiful places he was seeing for the first time!  He loved his country.  He enjoyed spending time traveling with his wife and family, exploring national parks in nearly all 50 states and visiting several countries.

During his working years he began his career at Burlington Industries while attending 'night school' at Guilford College.  He left there to serve as president of the family's business; Industrial Foundry & Manufacturing Company Inc. As a well known foundryman and metalurgist he was consulted during the setup of the UNC Greensboro art foundry and was a member of the Piedmont Chapter of the American Foundry Society hosting many tours by GTCC students and local meetings.  During his lifetime, he enjoyed being a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose and many church activities at Glenwood Methodist Church and Tabernacle Baptist Church.  He achieved his dream of becoming a private pilot and flew his planes out of Air Harbor on many family vacations.  He was an avid Golfer and played in many Harrah's Golf Tournaments out in the Reno/ Lake Tahoe area.  He was truly one of a kind and will be dearly missed by all who knew him.  There are countless 'Big Al' stories which will live on forever!

Surviving is his wife, Faith Monroe Golden; children, Kathy Golden Morris, Mary Golden, and Paula Golden; daughter-in-law Linda Golden; grandchildren, Jordan Morris (Emily), Lindsay Golden (Luke) and Rachel Golden (Daniel); great-granddaughter, Samara; sister-in-law Hope Mabe (Buddy); special nephews, Bobby Golden, Jr. (Elaine) and Cam Siegrist (Sydney) along with niece Soni Viers.  Also surviving are many niece', nephews, cousins, extended family members, and friends who loved him dearly.
