Alfred Eugene "Gene" Lawhorne

Reverend Alfred Eugene “Gene” Lawhorne, 87, of Greensboro passed away Sunday, January 18, 2026 at his residence.

Funeral will be 2:00 PM Wednesday, January 21, 2026 at Buchanan Baptist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery.

Pastor Lawhorne faithfully served as minister of Buchanan Baptist Church for forty years. Gene proudly served with the United States Army as a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne Division. He also served as a police officer with the Danville Police Department until he was called to preach in 1974. Pastor Lawhorne would always say he was one of the most blessed men on the face of the earth owing it all to God.

Gene is survived by his wife of sixty-eight years, Annie Ruth Lawhorne; children, Terri Fowler, Stan Lawhorne, and Jane Carter; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 1-1:45 Wednesday, at the church prior to the service.
