Mrs. Audrey Regina Ferguson Welch, 82, of Greensboro, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on November 17, 2022.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2 pm on Friday, December 30, 2022 at Restoration at The Rock (Rocky Knoll Baptist Church, 501 Kirkland Street, Greensboro). The family will receive friends following the service at the church.
Audrey was born in Mt. Airy on May 4, 1940, to the late Natt and Ruth Martin Ferguson. She was a member of Rocky Knoll Baptist Church.
She volunteered for many organizations including, Voice of Martyrs, where she was a spokesperson traveling around to different churches to raise awareness and support. Audrey also volunteered with Meals on Wheels, where she was recently recognized for her dedication to not only providing meals but also making sure everyone was cared for. One of her passions was making dresses for Uganda children. Along with her friend, Audrey made over 250 dresses that her daughter took to Uganda for the children. She served as a Chaplain with Moses Cone Hospital for several years and worked with the Salvation Army as a Bell Ringer. Audrey also served as a sight supervisor for Early Voting and Chief Judge at her precinct.
She started her career at Duke University Medical Center as an X-Ray technician. Audrey later moved to Greensboro where she worked in the Pathology Department at Moses Cone Hospital. She also enjoyed her time as a real estate agent and ultimately retired as Business Manager with her husband Bob, as they and co-operated Rainbow International Carpet Dyeing and Cleaning.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, George Hopkins and her son, Kenneth Hopkins.
Audrey is survived by her husband, Bob Welch; her children, Jennifer McClintock (Michael), Kristi Camp (John), Karen McBurney (Chuck), Kathy Asher and Robert Walton “Walt” Welch (Delores “DeeDee”); fifteen grandchildren and thirty-five great grandchildren; and sisters, Johnnie Mae Ferguson and Regina Louise Ferguson.
