Avery Esther (Hill) Glidewell

Avery Esther Glidewell, born on January 27, 1929 to the late Vance and Mary Hill of Lawsonville, NC, went Home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Wednesday, May 23, 2018.

Funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 26, 2018 at 11:00 am at Church Street Baptist Church with Pastor Tyler Gaulden officiating.  Burial will follow the service in their family cemetery in Critz, Va.

Along with her parents, Mrs. Glidewell was preceded in death by her brothers, James A. Hill, Gerald S. Hill and Curtis David Hill; sisters, Nancy Tudor Hill, Mary Lynn Gilliam, and Annie Hill Marshall.

Avery was a member of Church Street Baptist Church for 50 years, where she faithfully served in many capacities; to include, Sunday School teacher, church treasurer, choir member, and secretary of the Greensboro Bible Institute.  She was a devoted wife, mother (in-law), grandmother, sister, and friend.  She loved her family fiercely, she had a servant’s heart humbly, and she touched the lives of many, many people lovingly.  Surely, the Lord had her in mind when He said “blessed”.

She is survived by her husband of 70 years, James Anderson Glidewell; daughter, Debbie G. Boxman (Andy); grandchildren, Chris Murray (Jeanne) and Amber Patterson (John); great-grandchildren, Samantha Matchett, Christine Patterson, Jakob Patterson, Trinity Patterson, Anderson Murray, and Vance Murray; great-great-grandchildren, Cooper Matchett and Claire Matchett; sisters, Margie May, Beth Humble (Kenneth), Norma Harbour (Steve), Rebecca Wilson (David); brothers, Ivan Hill, and Danny Hill (Betty); sister-in-law, Peggy Hill; brothers in law, Ralph Glidewell (Ida) and Bobby Glidewell (Rhonda); and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at the church on Saturday morning from 10:00-11:00 prior to the service.
