On Sunday, October 26th, 2025, Barbara Ann Ryder Barber ran to heaven to be with her Lord and Savior. It was a day that she had anticipated for years. There to greet her was her husband, Henry Woodrow (Woody) Barber and her daughters, Linda Anthony and Diane Barber and her grandson, Jamie Seagraves. Not to mention the many other family members and friends. Family had the opportunity to witness the home calling, and the smile on her face was pure joy.
She was born on May 17, 1930 in Hamlet, NC, 95-1/2 years ago to Nannie Preddy Ryder Hape and Samuel Burgess Ryder. She is also predeceased by her brothers, Sam Ryder and Richard Ryder. Left here to remember her fondly are her daughters Connie Smith (Kim); Gail Seagraves (Wayne), her grandchildren April Anthony (Rick), John Henry Anthony, David Anthony (Lindsy), Catrina Seagraves, Brandy Delgado (Justin), Jacob Ozment (Sauksata), Price Woodrow Ozment (Ashlyn) and Wendi Black. Her great grandchildren Gabe Anthony, Carter Anthony, Linda Anthony, Henry Anthony, Easton Ozment, Allie Ozment and Sophie Ozment. She had many adopted children and grandchildren that are too many to name but the family wishes to thank Becky Carder, Debbie Dunn and Beverly Gleason who loved on her and took her to lunch or just sat and visited with her. She loved them dearly.
Barbara fellowshipped at Shannon Hills Bible Chapel from its beginning and loved to share stories of the early years when they met on Forrest Avenue. She was involved and instrumental on several of the committees at the Chapel but her favorite ministry was keeping the babies in the nursery for almost 30 years. She was known at the chapel as “The Hat Lady”. She had a varied assortment of hats that she loved wearing for every occasion.
She was a member of the Pinecroft-Sedgefield Fire Department’s Ladies Auxillary and also served on the executive board of the Alzheimer’s Association and traveled all over the country speaking about her experience with her husband.
She was an incredible seamstress and enjoyed making anything from Power Ranger costumes to expensive draperies. She loved cooking and had many secret recipes. Above all, she loved her family. She instilled in her children and grandchildren the importance of family, love of Jesus, and doing what is right.
The celebration of life for Barbara, will be this Saturday, November 1, 2025 at Shannon Hills Bible Chapel located at 900 W. Vandalia Road, Greensboro, NC. Visitation at 11:00 AM with the service at Noon. Graveside service to follow at Guilford Memorial Park 6000 West Gate City Boulevard.
