Mrs. Betty Jean Aker passed away May 5, 2022 after a difficult and lengthy battle with Alzheimers at the age of 83. She is now under the care of her Heavenly Father.
Betty was born in Staunton VA, December 5, 1938 to the late Marvin “Percy” and Clara Arthelia “Authey” Botkin. Her parents preceded her in death, along with two sisters, Irene and Marie. Also preceding her in death was her loving husband William David Aker and son Grover Sanders Aker “Sandy”. She leaves behind a son William David Aker Jr. “Bill”, two Grandson’s Jonathan Sanders Aker “Jon” and Brandon David Aker (wife Nora), and her beloved cat Smokey.
Betty was a longtime, dedicated employee of Ernie’s Machine Company. She loved her work family dearly and enjoyed working long after “retirement age”. Betty was also an extremely active member in her church, Burnetts Chapel UMC – which was very close to her heart. Betty received many awards over the years for her service with Senior Resources. Betty always made sure the local seniors in her community had an activity to attend and a hot meal to eat! In her free time Betty enjoyed listening to Elvis Presley music, going to rodeos, watching Nascar, and traveling with her family across the country.
The family also wishes to extend thanks to Michelle Wilson, Betty’s dedicated caregiver the past 3 years.
A funeral service will be held at Burnetts Chapel UMC, Greensboro NC on Wednesday May-11 at 3 P.M. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to: The Humane Society of Guilford County or Burnetts Chapel UMC
Betty was truly a Southern Lady that made a meaningful impact on many individuals throughout her years and will never be forgotten.
