Betty Pell Obituary

Betty Lou Nickles Pell, 91, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Monday evening May 27, 2024 at GrayBrier Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.

Funeral Service will be Monday June 3, 2024 at 3:00pm at Shannon Hills Bible Chapel with Pastor Mark Shelley officiating. Burial will follow at Gilmore Memorial Park in Julian.

Betty was born in Logan, West Virginia to the late Theodore James and Kathleen Roe Nickles. She was a fulltime homemaker until suddenly widowed for the first time at forty years of age. She learned to drive at that point and began a long career in the food service industry. She loved all of her customers at Libby Hill Seafood and her last job at K&W Cafeteria in Burlington, NC where she loved to joke that she had a "pie of a job" serving desserts on the line. She worked part time there until one month before her 85th birthday.

After her first husband's passing (Clyde A. Webster, Jr.), she was blessed to marry Earl F. Pell and they had over twenty wonderful years together. They loved to travel, especially to see family in Indiana and visit historic sites. She loved working in her flowers and with her son Danny's help, her yard had many beautiful things in bloom most of the time. She also loved shopping, gift giving and decorating.

She was resilient, finding a way to be thankful during multiple surgeries, cancer and many bereavements. She had a challenging life in many respects but demonstrated relentless love in caring for all that she encountered. She loved her family fiercely and was always selfless in serving others.

In addition to her parents, Betty is preceded in death by her husband Earl F. Pell; sons Clyde Webster, III and Paul Pell; and 3 brothers.

Surviving are her children: Judy Webster Crotts (Ronald), Danny Webster, Margaret Webster Schoolfield (Tommy), James Webster, Karren Pell (Tim), Sharon Pell (Lynn); daughter-in-law Myra Pell; 9 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren; siblings: Theodore Nickles, Jr., Lois Wheeler, Brenda Miller, and Janice Hulin.

The family will receive friends from 2:00-3:00pm at the church prior to the service.

The family would like to thank the amazing staff of the GrayBrier Memory Care for their wonderful care of our Mom over these past fourteen months. Their professionalism, compassion and responsiveness during her final days was truly a comfort.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be left to the Alzheimer's Association 225 N. Michigan Ave. Floor 17 Chicago, IL 60601 or to Hospice of the Piedmont.

George Brothers Funeral Service is honored to serve the Pell family.
