Mr. Calvin “Chip” Wayne Hanes, 70, of Greensboro, passed away on December 14, 2024, after a long and courageous battle with lung disease.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday at George Brothers Funeral Service with Pastor Donnie Phillips officiating. The committal service will follow at Guilford Memorial Park. The family will receive friends prior to the service at the funeral home from 12:30-2:00 pm. In honor of Chip, the family requests everyone attending to wear your favorite flannel shirt and blue jeans.
Chip was born in Guilford County on November 15, 1954, to the late Orren and Nancy Poe Hanes. He was retired after thirty years from the City of Greensboro Buildings Maintenance Division. His passion was riding his Harley Davidson and was a past director of the Greensboro Hog Club. Chip loved to hunt and fish but mostly loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of fifty years, Sheila P. Hanes; sons, Wayne and Brad Hanes; granddaughters, Layla and Abbie; great granddaughters, Olivia, Madilynn and soon to be great grandchild, “Baby #3”; his brother, Larry Hanes (Janie); his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Dale and Tessie Thompson; and other extended family and friends.
