In Loving Memory of a True Hero
It is with heavy hearts and deep respect that we announce the passing of Clemon Leroy “Roy” Tierce. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, friend, and decorated war veteran, who departed this world on April 21st, 2025. He lived a life marked by courage, compassion, and unwavering devotion—to family, to country, and to his dearly held values.
Born on June 30th, 1941, in Cartersville, Georgia, Clemon answered the call of duty early in life, serving his nation with honor and distinction, rising to become a CWO4. He served the United States bravely, most notably during the Vietnam War, where he was injured and received a Purple Heart. In the face of unimaginable hardship, he stood resolute. Clemon was always driven by deep love for and fierce commitment to family, country and those who served beside him. Throughout his life he enjoyed spending time with his loved ones and his naval buddies.
His valor in uniform was matched only by the quiet humility with which he carried those experiences in the years that followed. Clemon taught us the true meaning of sacrifice, resilience, and of what it means to live a life of faith with purpose. To know him was to know warmth, wisdom, and humor that brightened even the darkest days.
Clemon is survived by his wife of over 50 years Michele Tierce; his daughter Rebecca Freeman (Daryll); his grandchildren: Kayla Torrijos (Josiah), Sarah Rigoli, Taylor Freeman, and Danielle Freeman; his sisters: Anna Cooper, Libby Cochran, and Vicky Sims; and his great-grandsons: Wyatt Torrijos and Everett Rigoli; all of whom will carry forward the lessons and love he gave so generously.
It is hard to believe that a small-town country boy from Georgia would live a life of such valor and adventure, usually only found in books and dreams. He traveled the world, loved his family, and passed away with his hand being held, knowing that he was cherished by so many. Rest well, brave soul. Your watch on Earth is over, but your spirit marches on eternally. We will meet again.
A memorial service to be held at Salisbury National Cemetery, 501 Statesville Boulevard, Sailsbury, NC, at 12:30pm Wednesday April 30, 2025.
