Daniel Strickland, of Jamestown, 84, passed away Monday, March 16, 2026 at his home.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, March 26, 2026 at George Brothers Funeral Service. The burial will follow at 3:30 pm at Sycamore Hill Holiness Church Cemetery, 14901 Sycamore Church Road, Maxton NC. The family will receive friends from 9:30-11 am prior to the service at the funeral home.
Mr. Strickland was born on November 5, 1941, in Scotland County to the late Boyd and Ila Evans Strickland. A dedicated member of Immanuel Baptist Church, he served as a Deacon and Sunday School Teacher, and was mentored by Reverend Joseph West and Reverend Dr. Paul D. Early. Daniel also served as a lay person at Triad Native American United Methodist Church; between both congregations, his service spanned over 60 years.
Throughout his life, he was a devoted servant of Jesus Christ and deeply committed to the elderly and shut ins of his church community, making frequent hospital and home visits. He was part of the International Ministry at Immanuel Baptist Church working with immigrants from Africa, Singapore, Pakistan, Cambodia, and the Philippines, providing help with food and housing. Additionally, he worked with the Prison Ministry at Sandy Ridge and served as a bus driver for both Fraser Chapel and Triad Native American United Methodist Church. He retired from Sherwin Williams after 36 years of service.
Mr. Strickland was preceded in death by his siblings, William B. Strickland, Shelby Gibson, Belva Davis, and Audrey Jacobs.
He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Daphine Locklear Strickland; daughters, Darlene Strickland Clampett, Donna Strickland Smith, and Danielle Strickland Lopez (Placido); adopted son, David Locklear Strickland; grandchildren, Sarah Clampett, Abigail Clampett, Daniel Smith, Denise Lopez, Sebastian Lopez and Victoria Lopez; brothers, Harvey Strickland, Shand Strickland, and Ronnie Strickland, all of Pembroke; sisters, Jeanette Blue of Pembroke, Lisa Lowery (Nelson) of Red Springs, Ruby Hunt of Fairmont, and Irene Locklear of Red Springs.
Flowers are welcome, however the family kindly requests no food. Memorial contributions may be made to Triad Native American United Methodist Church, 3010 Monterey Street, Greensboro NC 27406.
The family would like to thank the staff of Medi Hospice, especially Lakeish Gainey and Sadé Jackson. Also, for all those who have visited, called, sent food, and prayed, the family expresses their sincere appreciation.
